U14 (Ages 12 and 13)

Practice Time and Location

This group will ski from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm with a coach. The athlete to coach ratio is 8:1 giving the coaches opportunities to work with each athlete individually. U14s will concentrate on expanding  and improving the skills that were introduced to them in the U10 and U12 programs.  Athletes will participate in 30-45% free skiing, 20% coached gate drills and 25-35% coached gate training. This program focuses on all learning styles and will continue to work on strong fundamental skills. It is important that athletes engage in a variety of off-snow physical activities as often as possible.

The race event schedule will be determined by the coaching staff. U14's are eligible to race a Super G and participate in a Super G camp. The early races will be used to qualify for the state finals and state championships which are scheduled in March.

Athletes are encouraged to ski with friends and family after the program ends each day and if possible during the week. Having fun is an important element in the engagement of young athletes.

Equipment

CMCC and U.S. Ski & Snowboard require that all athletes wear FIS approved helmets with hard ears. If you purchase a helmet, please make sure that it is FIS approved (look for the FIS official sticker on the helmet). U14 skiers must ski on event specific SL and GS skis. GS skis must have a minimum of 17 meter turn radius.

Memberships

All athletes are required to be members of both U.S. Ski and Snowboard and NHARA

Lift access is required and not included in the program cost. A season pass or daily lift tickets will be required.  https://www.crotchedmtn.com/

Competitions

U14 non-scored competition (12 and 13 year-olds) is organized at close to home areas for most of the season. The U14 program consists of non-scored Open races (GS, SL & SG) throughout the season and division qualifiers in February for selection to the NHARA U14 Finals and NHARA U14 Championships in early March. Athletes may qualify from the NH U14 Champs to the Eastern Region U14 Championships in mid-March. In late March, the USSA Eastern Region and Alpine Quebec and Alpine Ontario will compete at the non-scored U14 Can Am Races. Selection is from the race portion of the Eastern Region U14 Championships. Competitors must hold a valid USSA Competitor U14 membership and a valid NHARA membership for all programs.

All U12s (10 & 11 year olds) and U14s (12 & 13 year olds) who did not qualify for the U12/U14 Championships may compete at the U12/U14 State Finals. The quotas for these two events will be calculated so there will be two equal sized fields. Those competing at the State Finals can qualify for the Championships by finishing in the top 5 in the overall final standings. The best 2 of 4 runs are used to determine these standings. For further information on the qualification of racers, the points system and quotas please see the NHARA Handbook located on the NHARA website. http://www.nhara.org/
